Oak Grove
United Methodist Church

Decatur Texas

Welcome!

by Fredric L. Utz

If your idea of church is like something in a Currier & Ives or Norman Rockwell painting, then you will feel right at home at Oak Grove United Methodist Church. It is truly a haven or retreat from all the hustle and bustle of city life. Oak Grove is literally situated in an oak grove in a country setting. The church has been in existence since 1878, but the facilities have been renovated and well cared for. Recently the sanctuary was repainted, and an addition was completed with a new office, nursery, classrooms, kitchen, and fellowship hall. It was paid for the same year it was built. There is no church indebtedness.

The people of Oak Grove are what makes the church so special and inviting. Everyone is known on a first name basis and really goes out of the way to be friendly and welcoming--not only to each other but to visitors as well. Whether it's ministry within its own membership or mission to people on the other side of the world, the people of Oak Grove are quick to respond to the need. We are a caring, giving, serving church!

Worship at Oak Grove is uplifting and fun! We do lots of singing of the old favorites as well as contemporary hymns. We have twin pianos accompanying the singing at the same time. The service is an opportunity to thank God for all our bountiful blessings, to lift up our prayer concerns, and to hear the Word proclaimed. It is truly a "church in the wildwood." We welcome you to attend and see for yourself that we have open hearts, open minds, and open doors.

The Old Country Church

Oh! I'd like to go back to that old country church,
and to hear the songs of praise.
How the people would sing, it would make the Heavens ring,
at that old, at that old country church.
Shall we gather at the river the beautiful, the beautiful river;
Gather with the saints at the river that flows by the throne of God.

Oh! I'll never forget at that old country church,
how the glory of the Lord came down.
And the children would smile, as they shouted down the aisle
of that old, of that old country church.
In the sweet by and by, we shall meet on that beautiful shore:
In the sweet by and by, we shall meet on tht beautiful shore.

Then on Sunday to see all my friends so dear to me
at that old country church.
When it came time for prayer, everybody would be there
at that old, at that old country church.
Lleaning, leaning safe and secure from all alarms;
Leaning, leaning, leaning on the Everlasting Arms.

Now the years have gone by and so many have died,
at that old country church.
But they're on the other shore, and they'll sing forevermore,
as they did at that old country church.
I'm redeemed by love divine, Glory, glory, Christ is mine;
All to Him I now resign, I have been redeemed
