Pastor Glenn Waldon

“God is good, all the time. All the time, God is good.” If you haven’t heard that response yet, you will when Pastor Glenn Waldon occupies the pulpit. It is not only a favorite expression, but an apt one for Glenn, his wife Karen, and their daughter Laura Ann. God has been good to all of them over the years.

Even though his family originally settled in the Greenwood and Bridgeport areas of Wise County, Glenn was born in the West Texas town of Seagraves. Because his father was in the electrical construction business, Glenn and his family traveled extensively throughout the US, living in New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Michigan, and West Virginia before settling in Bridgeport where he has lived since then. While in high school in North Richland Hills, Glenn joined the Army reserve, and upon graduation served in the 82nd Airborne Division. Afterwards, he served as a police officer for fifteen years in local Wise County departments, including Bridgeport, Chico, and Runaway Bay.

Glenn was reared in the Assembly of God Church, but when he met and married Karen, he joined her in accepting the Methodist doctrine at Alvord UMC. While serving as a lay speaker there, Glenn was asked to serve as interim pastor of Sunset UMC, a small but committed congregation nearby. During his time there, the membership began to grow, and on Sunday, September 14, 2008, it was officially reconstituted as part of the Wichita Falls District of the North Texas Conference. To pursue his calling, Glenn is taking classes at Perkins School of Theology and is in his third year of studies there. Glenn is also owner of Waldon Electric Company of Bridgeport, joining the ranks of his grandfather, father, and uncles, who all share the same careers.

In his spare time, Glenn enjoys riding his “Harley” with Karen as they travel around the countryside. He also has a special affinity for stray animals of all kinds. During his lifetime, Glenn has had three broken legs: one from riding a horse, one from falling off a ladder, and one from skydiving! God has been good to Oak Grove by bringing Glenn to serve as our pastor. We look forward to many years together serving God!

Glenn’s favorite Bible verse is Romans 13: 8-12

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. The commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not murder," "Do not steal," "Do not covet," and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.

Glenn’s favorite hymn is "Some Day"

My trials here on earth will cease, Some day, some day;
And I will have unending peace, Some day, some day.

Chorus:
Some day, some day, Some day, Some happy day,
From sin set free, I'll live with Christ for aye, Some day, Some day!

No more in darkness I will roam, Some day, some day:
But rest eternally at home, Some day, some day.

Those gone before me I shall meet, Some day, some day;
My loved ones will my spirit greet, Some day, some day.

My loving Savior I shall see, Some day, some day;
With Him in glory I shall be, Some day, some day.
